Counselling vs ADHD Coaching:
What’s the Difference, and Which One Do You Need?

If you’re here, chances are you’re looking for support.
Maybe you're feeling overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or unsure of your next step.

You might be wondering if you need counselling to process deeper emotions or coaching to move forward with more clarity and purpose.

Here’s the good news: you don’t need to have it all figured out. Below, I’ll walk you through the difference between counselling and coaching, and how I can help you based on where you are right now.

What is Counselling?

Focus: Healing from the past and understanding your emotional world.

Counselling is a therapeutic process that supports you in exploring thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and life experiences. It’s particularly helpful if you're feeling emotionally overwhelmed, stuck in negative patterns, or struggling with mental health challenges like anxiety, low mood, trauma, or burnout.

We work at your pace to:

  • Process difficult emotions or experiences
  • Understand how your past influences your present
  • Develop healthier coping mechanisms
  • Improve your relationships, self-esteem, and emotional wellbeing

Counselling is ideal if you want to:
✔ Feel more in control of your emotions
✔ Understand and heal from past experiences
✔ Break free from unhelpful mental health patterns
✔ Reconnect with your sense of self

What is ADHD Coaching?

Focus: Moving forward with clarity, confidence, and purpose.

ADHD Coaching is a structured, action-oriented approach that helps you move forward with clarity, confidence, and purpose. It’s designed for individuals who are ready to better understand their ADHD, break through frustration, and create systems that actually work for their unique brain. You don't need to be "perfectly organised" to start. You just need a willingness to show up, explore what works, and take small, sustainable steps toward change.

Together, we work to:

  • Understand how ADHD impacts your strengths, challenges, and daily patterns
  • Identify your values, goals, and what motivates you
  • Tackle overwhelm, procrastination, and decision paralysis
  • Build ADHD-friendly routines, habits, and planning systems
  • Boost emotional regulation, confidence, and follow-through

ADHD Coaching is ideal if you want to:
✔ Make decisions with more ease and confidence
✔ Create routines that match how your brainy works
✔ Set boundaries, manage energy, and stay focused on what matters most

Still not sure which support is right for you?

You don’t have to decide alone.

During your initial session, we’ll discuss what’s been going on for you, what support you’re looking for, and whether counselling, coaching, or a blend of both is the best fit. Many clients actually benefit from a blend of both. Because I’m trained in both counselling and ADHD coaching, we can tailor our sessions based on what’s going on for you, whether that means pausing to heal, or moving forward with action.
